The relationship between the method of calculating the prevalence of modified Fried frailty over 65 years of age and oral health status using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey
Cho Hyun-Jae

Abstract
The relationship between oral health and frailty has rarely been evaluated. This study aimed to define the method of defining using the data provided by the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey using the frailty criteria defined by Fried. A retrospective observational study was performed based on data from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII: 2016-2018). A total of 2,862 participants (1,282 males, 1,580 females) was 65 years or older. The phenotype associated with Fried¡¯s frailty was obtained through the EuroQoL questionnaire and examination questions of the KNHANES VII. The study results showed that oral health status was associated with frailty. Health care professionals, especially public health policy planners and dental care providers, should spread oral health awareness among the aging population, considering that poor oral conditions might be associated with frailty.
